Tanks in the Kitchen, Tanks' Recipe

Recipe: Homemade Donuts & Donut Holes

Donuts are a personal favorite morning indulgence of mine. Quick and easy to eat and satisfies the sweet tooth a little!  I always thought making donuts must be a long process till one episode of Paula Deen’s show aired and my eyes and ears were glued to her making it right from a can of Pillsbury Biscuits! It looked so easy and mouth-watering so I decided to make them today. I am truly surprised how quick it is to make donuts by using this method and the taste of the donuts. They turned out so airy and fluffy!  Toppings and frostings can be altered to your taste (icing, sugared, nuts, etc.) but I decided to keep it simple with the ingredients I have at home.

Try this recipe and let me know if it saved you a trip to a donut shop.

Ingredients:

1 Can – Pillsbury Biscuits (large & non-flaky) makes 8 donuts and donut holes.

Peanut oil or Vegetable oil for frying

1  teaspoon – Cinnamon

1/4 cup – Sugar

Preparation:

Pour oil about 2 inches deep and heat in a non-stick pan (I ended up using vegetable oil because that’s all I had in my pantry).  Lay out the biscuits on a chopping board. With a small round cookie cutter or using a small kitchen  knife, place or cut the middle of the biscuit in a circular shape. When you pop the dough out roll them in to little balls to fry later.

Smooth the cut edges in to the biscuit and fry them on each side till they are golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side. Lay them on a cookie rack or paper towel to drain the excess oil. Once all biscuits are fried and put on a rack to cool, drop the dough balls from the biscuits in the oil. I noticed the dough balls just flip on their own once fried on one side. It was like a cartwheel in the oil, good landing though. Make sure all the dough balls are fried golden brown and placed on a cookie rack to cool.

In a large Ziploc bag add measured sugar and cinnamon and shake around till mixed together. Place donuts and donut holes in the Ziploc couple at a time. Seal and shake till completely covered all over.

Serve donuts fresh  and try the donut holes with chocolate or fruit dippings!
