Earlier this year I had the experience of traveling to Austin, Texas for a business trip for two weeks. Naturally, as before a trip, I started asking friends and those I came across about the city. On most occasions I get mixed reviews about cities and places to visit but Austin has to be the only place where unanimously I was told how great the city is. From places to eat, visit, and drink it seemed visitors to the city knew about it like it was there local town. I had the luxury of staying in Downtown Austin and not too far from the happenings of the city. I walked to work everyday and explored the city’s beautiful architecture and cosmopolitan vibes. Let’s get to the good stuff, what did you eat there?! I have to tell you that I was extremely taken aback at how amazing the food was in this city. Vast options available for any palate and pocket! Since I walked to and fro work and barely was able to squeeze lunches in some days the food trucks downstairs were my best bets. I was able to try different varieties of food and have the convenience of a quick bite.
While in Austin, I heard from a co-worker about this one Korean Mexican BBQ food truck which only comes around lunch time in the area and has the most “amazing” food truck food ever. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the combo and became curious as I heard more about it. Once lunch time came around I jetted to get in line for this supposedly amazing Korean Mexican BBQ food. While waiting my turn I notice the food truck decked out in Food Network and Cooking Channel “best eats” type of decal awards on their front. Now I’m impressed, hungersome, and highly curious (another word for skeptical). Having a tough choice deciding what to get I ordered both things I couldn’t choose from: Tacos & Kimchi Fries. For $11 I was able to get two tacos and a good amount of fries. Before this paragraph starts to sound more predictable, let me just remind you how “weird” this combo sounds to someone who had not heard about it, but oh my food God was it the best tacos & fries I’ve ever had. The tacos filled with Asian flavors and a Mexican casing of corn tortillas around it just made perfect sense. From the cilantro and Korean soy vinaigrette to Chi’lantro’s own salsa, the taco with every bite had flavors I could recognize as being Mexican and Korean. The Kimchi Fries is the pride and innovation of Chi’lantro and possibly the best toppings I’ve had and tried on my fries. Sriracha, sesame seeds, onions, kimchi, Monterey Jack cheese, caramelized onions…I’m getting hungry. Somehow the combination of all of that on the fries make it the best quick eat I’ve ever tried. With the hype met and flavorful food eaten, I returned to Chi’lantro two more times during my stay and I’d like to thank them for a unique experience!
Let me know when you try Chi’lantro and your thoughts on the review!
